Today’s New Jersey dog portrait session was an absolute blast. I was in Monroe Township, New Jersey, to photograph the gorgeous Maggie and Maxie. These two seemed prepared for their session, as long as you gave them treats when they demanded them.
Maggie, the Chihuahua, is a laid back little girl; she wasn’t impressed with any of my antics; however, she did what she needed to do and nailed every pose I asked her to do. In a high-pitched voice, of course, “Do You Wanna Treat” worked the best. I learned this quickly from her human mother. Anything else in a high pitched voice didn’t work, which is unusual; the word treat seemed to trigger her. She was calm during the beginning of the portrait session and then got a little feisty, cutely. As a result, we were able to get many memorable expressions. Every time I looked at her, she would take her right paw, stretch that little thing out as far as she could, with such effort, and swipe it back and forth. Telling me, she wanted me to pet her. She’s a shy little girl but certainly likes her attention. But who doesn’t? I will never turn down a back scratch.
Maxie certainly was a character on her own. She’s a stubborn chubby little girl. Don’t you dare move her without giving her a treat; her teeth went five feet past her lips when I tried, with a cute growl, of course. She pretty much finished up the whole bag of goodies. However, from what was told to me, she likes her snacks. I seemed to have a special bond with Maxie; it’s unexplainable. She has multiple personalities, not the scary kind; she was a lot of fun to photograph, and I identified with her. It was as if she had all these ideas in her head but had difficulty explaining her thoughts.
